Universal Music Releases Nirvana 'Nevermind' 30th Anniversary Editions, Keeping Iconic Original Cover
Universal Music has released 30th anniversary editions of Nirvana's 'Nevermind' album featuring the original, unaltered cover art, despite an ongoing child-pornography lawsuit from Spencer Elden, who appeared as a baby on the iconic album cover.

The release includes multiple formats, with CD versions and a 1LP version shipping in November. A premium edition featuring eight 180-gram LPs is scheduled for release in May 2022.
Universal Music and Geffen appear undeterred by Elden's lawsuit, which demands "all profits and unjust enrichment" from the album that has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. The timing is particularly notable as it comes after failed mediation attempts and just before Elden's deadline to file an updated complaint on November 22nd.
The legal battle recently took an unexpected turn when an "intervenor defendant" attempted to join the suit, though their request was dismissed by the judge. Dave Grohl has suggested that Nirvana might eventually consider changing the album cover, despite the current release maintaining the original artwork.
The defendants, including Universal Music, Geffen, and surviving Nirvana members, will have until January 21st to respond to Elden's amended complaint.
