Nirvana Lawsuit Update: 'Nevermind' Cover Controversy Targets Kurt Cobain's Creative Decisions
Spencer Elden, who appeared as a baby on Nirvana's iconic "Nevermind" album cover, has filed an amended child pornography lawsuit against the band and associated parties.

The lawsuit targets Nirvana, Universal Music Group, Geffen Records, Courtney Love, and the album cover's photographer, claiming they "knowingly produced, possessed, and advertised commercial child pornography" with the album cover that has sold over 30 million copies worldwide.
The amended complaint particularly focuses on Kurt Cobain's alleged role in selecting the photograph, citing entries from Cobain's published journals that supposedly reveal disturbing thoughts and suggest the cover choice was deliberately provocative. The lawsuit claims there were discussions about the image's potential inappropriate appeal, including consideration of censoring it with a sticker, which never materialized.
This legal action seeks "restitution and disgorgement of all profits" obtained from what the plaintiff describes as "unlawful conduct." Despite the ongoing litigation, the 30th anniversary editions of Nevermind were released with the original cover art unchanged, suggesting the defendants remain unconcerned about the complaint.
