Warner Music India Expands Live Entertainment Presence with Strategic SkillBox Investment
Warner Music India (WMI) has acquired a minority stake in SkillBox, a ticketing and live events platform, as part of Warner Music Group's strategy to expand in emerging markets.
Men standing against brick wall
Founded in 2020, SkillBox has evolved from a simple ticketing platform into a comprehensive live entertainment company, serving over 1.5 million users with artist tours, ticketing solutions, and branded event experiences. The platform was co-founded by Amnol Kukreja and Sandip Ranjhan, with Roydon Bangera and Amarjeet Singha as founding team members.
WMI's Managing Director Jay Mehta is implementing a three-pronged strategy:
- Bringing Indian music to global audiences
- Establishing WMI as a major cultural force in India
- Securing a top-three market position in revenue and market share
This investment allows WMI to expand its artist services and connect with more fans through live performances. The partnership comes at a crucial time as India's live entertainment sector shows significant growth potential, with its diverse market spanning multiple languages and genres.
Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl has identified India as a key growth market, with the company actively seeking acquisition opportunities in the region. The SkillBox investment supports WMI's diversification efforts in live events, merchandise, and brand partnerships, complementing their existing revenue streams from digital streaming and YouTube royalties.
Despite being a developing market, India's live entertainment space presents significant opportunities for major players like Warner Music, with its massive fan base and thriving independent music scene. This early investment positions WMI strategically for future growth in the region.
