Timbaland Partners with Suno AI to Pioneer New Music Genre 'A-Pop'
Timbaland, renowned music producer, is venturing into AI music with the launch of Stage Zero, an AI entertainment company focused on creating a new genre called "A-Pop" (artificial pop). This initiative follows his recent appointment as creative director at AI music startup Suno.

The company's first project is TaTa, an AI-generated artist featuring a distinctive voice that Timbaland discovered while experimenting with Suno's platform. "I fell in love with this voice... it's amazing," Timbaland expressed about the AI-generated vocals that would become TaTa's signature sound.
Stage Zero, co-founded with film producer Rocky Mudaliar, plans to develop TaTa into a fully-realized virtual artist with social media presence and AI-generated imagery. While no release date has been announced for TaTa's debut single, the project aims to blur the lines between virtual and reality.
Despite ongoing concerns about AI in the music industry, particularly regarding copyright issues, Mudaliar remains optimistic about its acceptance. He draws parallels to the evolution of influencer culture, suggesting that AI integration in music will become normalized over time.
The project will incorporate human creators in developing both TaTa and future AI artists, though questions remain about how this might affect traditional human roles in music production. As a producer known for shaping musical trends, Timbaland's embrace of AI technology could signal a significant shift in the industry's approach to artificial intelligence in music creation.
