Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced the arrest of Tyrone Rose (20) from Kingston, Jamaica, and Shamara P. Simmons (31) from Jamaica, Queens. The defendants face charges including grand larceny, computer tampering, and conspiracy, with potential sentences of 3-15 years if convicted.
The scheme operated from June 2022 to July 2023, during which the accused:
- Exploited StubHub's system through their positions at Sutherland, a third-party contractor
- Intercepted ticket URLs meant for legitimate buyers
- Redirected approximately 993 tickets to their accomplices
- Resold the tickets on StubHub for significant profit
The stolen tickets included access to high-profile events:
- Taylor Swift's Eras Tour
- Adele concerts
- Ed Sheeran performances
- NBA games
- US Open Tennis Championships
The case highlights the growing concern over ticket security, particularly for high-value events like Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, where tickets reached prices up to $3,100 in Indianapolis, $3,000 in Vancouver, and $2,500 in Miami.
The investigation remains ongoing, with the defendants scheduled to return to court on March 7. StubHub's cooperation with authorities led to the discovery and prosecution of this cybercrime operation.
