Selena's Murderer Yolanda Saldívar Seeks Parole 30 Years After Fatal Shooting
Yolanda Saldívar, the convicted murderer of Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla-Perez, has filed for parole after serving nearly 30 years in prison. Saldívar, now 64, was the president of Selena's fan club and manager of her boutique line when she fatally shot the singer in 1995.

The murder took place at a Days Inn hotel in Corpus Christi on March 31, 1995, after Selena's family discovered Saldívar had been embezzling funds from the singer's businesses. During a confrontation, Saldívar shot 23-year-old Selena in the back with a .38 Taurus Model 85 revolver as she attempted to flee the room. Selena later died at a local hospital from blood loss.
Despite Saldívar's claims that the shooting was accidental and that she had intended to kill herself, a jury convicted her of murder on October 23, 1995. She received a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 30 years.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice confirms Saldívar is now "in the Parole Review Process," with her parole eligibility date set for March 25. Currently held at the Patrick L. O'Daniel Unit in Gatesville, Texas, Saldívar will undergo a six-month review process that includes:
- An inmate interview
- Collection of support and protest letters
- Case summary compilation by an Institutional Parole Officer
- Final decision by the Board voting panel
According to the NY Post, Saldívar reportedly faces constant death threats from fellow inmates. In a recent Peacock documentary, "Selena and Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them," she maintained that she "was convicted by public opinion" before her trial began.
