Multiple employees have confirmed the news through LinkedIn posts, with one Senior UX Researcher noting they were part of the 15% reduction. The news was reportedly delivered "abruptly" to affected staff members.

Founded in 2009 by Jack Groetzinger and Russell D'Souza, SeatGeek has evolved from a ticket resale marketplace to a major ticketing platform with significant partnerships in sports and entertainment. The company maintains relationships with premier sports teams, including:

  • Premier League: Liverpool and Manchester City
  • NFL: Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans
  • MLB: Ten teams added in the past year
  • NHL: Utah Hockey Club
  • NCAA: Big 12 conference
  • USA Softball

Despite recent expansion and the launch of new features like "Parties" (a group ticket management system), the company faces challenges. In 2021, SeatGeek's planned SPAC merger with RedBall Acquisition Corp was canceled due to market conditions. However, the company filed confidential IPO papers in April 2023, with Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, and Wells Fargo as underwriters.

The company has not officially responded to requests for comment regarding the layoffs.
