Pop icon Mariah Carey expressed surprise that her attorney, Allen Grubman, was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame before her. Despite being eligible since 2015, Carey only received her first nomination this year.
Grubman, who was inducted in 2022 under the Ahmet Ertegun Award category, has represented numerous music legends including Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, and Elton John. As one of the Rock Hall's founders, his induction sparked controversy, with former co-founder Jann Wenner criticizing it as a decision driven by business interests.
"Everybody was calling me, going, 'I think you're getting in!' and so I was excited about it. But then it didn't happen. My lawyer got into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame before me," Carey told The Los Angeles Times.
Currently, Carey is focusing on her upcoming 2024 Christmas Tour and Las Vegas residency. She's also working on new music, with reportedly "nine or ten" songs in development, and has partnered with Amazon Music for Christmas merchandise, cementing her status as the Queen of Christmas.
