Lil Wayne Teases Mystery Release During Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl Interview
Lil Wayne has announced he's releasing "something special" on February 6th, coinciding with Kendrick Lamar's Apple Music Radio interview. The announcement comes after Wayne expressed disappointment about not being selected for the Super Bowl LIX halftime show in his hometown of New Orleans.
"Y'all know I'm not gon' be there this week," Wayne stated on Instagram. "Which means, I guess there's a seat to fill. Shout out to New Orleans, but I've been working on something very special. I've got something exciting coming for you. Thursday the 6th."

The timing is particularly interesting given the recent tension between Wayne and Kendrick Lamar. On his album GNX, Lamar referenced Wayne with the lyrics "Used to bump Tha Carter III, I held my Rollie chain proud / Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down."
Wayne responded to these lyrics on social media, tweeting: "Man wtf I do? I just be chillin' and dey still kome 4 my head. Let's not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all."
In a conversation with Skip Bayless, Wayne later clarified his feelings about both Kendrick's lyrics and the Super Bowl situation: "He didn't let me down. There was no explanation that was needed for that. I think I understand those words. His hard work is the reason why he made it there, and obviously that part about letting me down is me being upset and disappointed about not getting that spot."
The February 6th release will mark Wayne's first major announcement of 2025, though the nature of the "special" content remains under wraps.
