The key concerns focus on unauthorized use of copyrighted content by AI companies, which these organizations claim is happening "on an industrial scale." They emphasize the need for:

  • Transparent disclosure of training data used in AI models
  • Proper licensing mechanisms for copyrighted content
  • Enforcement of creators' rights in AI training
  • Compliance with EU copyright laws

The AI Act aims to establish global standards for AI regulation, similar to GDPR's impact on data privacy. It defines AI systems as autonomous machine-based systems generating outputs that affect physical or virtual environments.

The organizations stress that meaningful implementation of the AI Act is crucial for:

  • Creating a sustainable licensing market
  • Encouraging responsible AI innovation
  • Ensuring fair market competition
  • Protecting creators' remuneration rights
  • Safeguarding Europe's creative content value

The joint statement concludes by requesting support for concrete implementation steps to create a framework that balances AI innovation with protection for cultural and creative industries.
