Amanda Palmer: Trump Presidency Will Spark Punk Rock Revival

Singer-songwriter Amanda Palmer believes Donald Trump's presidency will spark a renaissance in punk rock and political art, drawing parallels to the creative explosion of Weimar Germany. Speaking at Queensland's Woodford Folk festival, Palmer expressed both concern and optimism about the upcoming political climate in the United States.
Palmer predicts artists will respond to political tensions with powerful, satirical work: "Donald Trump is going to make punk rock great again. We're all going to crawl down staircases into basements and speakeasies and make amazing satirically political art."
The Dresden Dolls founder, currently touring Australia, recently secured a five-year working visa with her husband Neil Gaiman. While celebrating this milestone and their one-year-old son Anthony, Palmer maintains a critical stance toward Trump's presidency.
"If the political climate keeps getting uglier, the art will have to answer. We will have to fight. It's already happening – the artists in my tribes have been like, 'Alright. This is not good.' We are sharpening our knives for a large buffet."
Though unable to join the women's protests in Washington on January 20th, Palmer pledges to continue her resistance through art: "I feel like I really should be there in Washington with the millions of other women who are going to give the giant finger to the orange man. But I'll do what I can from over here."
