300+ Major Artists Join Boyz II Men in Capitol Hill Push for American Music Fairness Act
Legendary R&B group Boyz II Men visited Capitol Hill to deliver a powerful letter signed by over 300 major recording artists, urging lawmakers to pass the American Music Fairness Act. The group met with key lawmakers including House Speaker Mike Johnson, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Majority Leader Steve Scalise.

The bipartisan legislation would require U.S. radio stations to pay artists when their music is played on AM/FM radio, bringing the United States in line with other democratic nations. Notable artists supporting the bill include Aerosmith, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, P!nk, and many others.
Under the proposed bill:
- Nearly two-thirds of radio stations would pay just $500 annually for unlimited music
- Small broadcasters could play unlimited music for $1.37 per day
- Artists would receive compensation when their songs are played on AM/FM radio
- An estimated $300 million in foreign performance royalties would flow back to U.S. artists
"This is an issue about right and wrong," stated Boyz II Men members. "It's outrageous that big radio companies make billions in ads while denying royalties to performers whose music attracts listeners."
The legislation has gained significant public support, with 73% of Americans believing it's unfair that artists don't get paid for radio plays. The bill was introduced in the Senate by a bipartisan group including Senators Marsha Blackburn, Alex Padilla, Thom Tillis, and Cory Booker.
Support comes from diverse organizations including the Alliance for Community Media, National Federation of Community Broadcasters, and various other broadcasting and music industry groups. Every U.S. president since Jimmy Carter has advocated for artists to receive payment for AM/FM radio plays.
