Victory Boyd, a Roc Nation-signed artist, has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Travis Scott, SZA, and Future over their track "Telekinesis." The lawsuit, filed in New York federal court, also names Sony Music and other defendants.

According to the lawsuit, Boyd wrote and recorded a demo titled "Like the Way It Sounds" in November 2019, which she shared with Kanye West. The demo was registered under copyright number SR0000986420. West allegedly played Boyd's song for Travis Scott in a Wyoming studio, where Scott later accessed it.

In May 2023, Scott reportedly introduced the track to SZA and Future, leading to the release of "Telekinesis" in July 2023. Boyd claims her work was used without permission, noting that she's already credited as a co-writer in streaming metadata on platforms like Spotify and YouTube.

The situation escalated when Audemars Piguet, a Swiss luxury watch manufacturer, contacted Boyd in November 2023 seeking to license "Telekinesis" for an advertising campaign. Despite Boyd denying the request, the campaign proceeded.

The defendants reportedly offered Boyd an 8% writing credit on "Telekinesis," which she declined. Instead, she is pursuing legal action, seeking:

  • Substantial damages
  • A preliminary injunction to stop further broadcasting of "Telekinesis"
  • Additional legal remedies

The case is currently pending under docket number 1:25-cv-00181, with Boyd maintaining her position that her original work was used without proper authorization or compensation.
