Jay-Z Files Defamation Lawsuit Against Sexual Assault Accuser and Attorney Following Dropped Charges
Jay-Z has launched a countersuit against a Jane Doe and her attorney Tony Buzbee following the withdrawal of their rape allegations against him. The lawsuit alleges defamation and extortion.

The countersuit comes after Jane Doe dropped her case against both Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) and Diddy (Sean Combs), which had alleged sexual assault from an incident in 2000 at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty when she was allegedly a minor.
Carter's legal team claims that:
- The initial allegations were "knowingly false" and "malicious"
- The timing was calculated to cause maximum damage
- Buzbee sent an "extortionate" demand letter before publicly naming Carter
- The accuser admitted to representatives that the story was false
- Buzbee proceeded despite knowing the allegations were untrue
The rapper is seeking actual, assumed, and punitive damages for:
- Malicious prosecution
- Abuse of process
- Civil conspiracy
- Defamation
In response, Buzbee stated to Variety that the case lacks legal merit and accused Carter's investigators of harassment and intimidation. He claims the quotes attributed to Jane Doe in the lawsuit are fabricated and maintains that his client stands by her original claims.
