TikTok Returns to App Stores After DOJ Assures No Fines for Downloads
TikTok has resumed its presence on both Apple App Store and Google Play following a brief removal due to U.S. government restrictions. The restoration comes after U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi provided written assurance to Apple that they wouldn't face fines under the current administration.
The Biden administration's ban initially included a $5,000 fine per download for platform owners continuing to offer TikTok after January 19. This prompted both Apple and Google to remove the app from their stores on that date.

While Android users could still access TikTok through sideloading, iOS users had no alternative method to download the app. According to Sensor Tower, TikTok's download distribution in the previous year was nearly equal between platforms:
- Apple App Store: 52% of downloads
- Google Play: 48% of downloads
President Trump has indicated that while the 75-day deadline for TikTok to find a U.S. partner could be extended, he doesn't believe it's necessary. A task force led by Vice President J.D. Vance and National Security Adviser Michael Waltz will oversee the sale of TikTok's U.S. operations.
Multiple potential buyers have expressed interest in acquiring the social media platform. Trump has suggested TikTok could potentially become part of a new U.S. sovereign wealth fund. With the app's return to major app stores, the urgency surrounding the situation appears to have diminished significantly.
