The United States Marshals Service will auction Dash's 33.3% stake in Roc-A-Fella Records on August 29, with a minimum bid set at $1.2 million. The auction aims to satisfy an $823,000 judgment against Dash from movie producer Josh Webber.
New York's Department of Taxation & Finance filed a motion in Manhattan federal court to intervene in the proceedings, citing unpaid taxes and penalties from personal income between 2005 and 2018. The department views this auction as potentially their last chance to recover some of the long-standing debt.
The auction proceeds will be distributed in order of priority:
- First: New York's Department of Social Services ($145,096 in child support)
- Second: New York State Tax Department (seeking position)
- Remaining: Other creditors
The auction will take place in Manhattan, with Roc-A-Fella's primary asset being Jay-Z's debut album, "Reasonable Doubt." Other Roc-A-Fella catalog releases are not included in the sale, as the label dissolved in 2013.
