Louisiana GOP Lawmakers Demand 'Family-Friendly' Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, Slam Past Performances
A group of 17 Louisiana Republican legislators have penned an open letter condemning past Super Bowl Halftime performances and demanding more family-friendly entertainment for Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.

Legislators criticize Super Bowl halftime show
The lawmakers specifically criticize recent performances, including Rihanna's 2023 show, Jennifer Lopez's 2020 performance, and the controversial 2004 Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake show. They argue that since Louisiana taxpayers contribute funding to hosting Super Bowls, they should have input on the content of these performances.
The letter states that while past performances may have been acceptable in other states, they are "inappropriate for viewing by children, objectify women, and are simply NOT welcomed by the majority of Louisiana parents."
The legislators are requesting that future contracts for state-funded facilities include written provisions ensuring performers adhere to "Louisiana's community decency standards." However, as contracts are already in place for the upcoming Super Bowl LIX, the letter's immediate impact may be limited.
Notably, these complaints come from legislators representing a state that includes New Orleans' famous Bourbon Street, known for its adult entertainment venues and nightlife.
