John Mayer and McG to Acquire Historic Jim Henson Studios in Hollywood for $60M
Grammy-winning musician John Mayer and filmmaker McG are set to purchase the historic Jim Henson Studio lot in Hollywood for a reported $60 million. The property, located at 1416 N. La Brea in Los Angeles, has served as a significant landmark in entertainment history.

The studio lot has a rich heritage, originally serving as Charlie Chaplin Studios since 1917 before becoming A&M Records headquarters in 1966. The Jim Henson Company acquired the property in 1999 for $12.5 million, with its most recent appraisal valued at $21.9 million in 2017.
The sale comes as the Jim Henson Company seeks to consolidate its operations, planning to relocate both the production company and Jim Henson's Creature Shop into a single facility. The current Hollywood lot cannot accommodate both operations.
Notably, John Mayer already maintains offices at the studio lot and uses its recording facilities. A Henson family spokesperson has confirmed that while there were rumors about the Church of Scientology's interest in the property, they were not considered as potential buyers.
The purchase represents a significant investment in Hollywood's entertainment infrastructure, preserving a historic property that has played crucial roles in film, television, and music production for over a century.
