Italian Music Industry Successfully Blocks Six Major Stream-Ripping Sites

Italian authorities have successfully blocked six major stream-ripping sites as part of ongoing efforts to combat music piracy. The action was initiated by the Italian Federation Against Musical and Multimedia Piracy (FPM) in collaboration with IFPI.

  • Sites averaged 3 million accesses from Italy alone
  • Stream ripping accounts for 30% of music piracy in Italy
  • Illegal practice grew 10% in Q1 2024, reaching 10 million monthly accesses

  • YTMP3 brand sites (ytmp3.nu, ytmp3.im)
  • lumieremusic.net
  • projectspark.ca
  • downmp3.yt
  • y2meta.app
  • x2mate.com
  • yt5.io

Current EU Piracy Trends:

  • Overall digital piracy increased 3.3% in 2022
  • Distribution of pirated content:
    • TV content: 48%
    • Publications: 28%
    • Films: 11%
    • Software: 7%
    • Music: 6%

Streaming now accounts for 58% of piracy activities, while downloads represent 32%. Live sports piracy saw a significant 30% increase between 2021 and 2022.

"The technological efforts of our team meet the application of the AGCOM Regulation whose results have a clear impact on illegal access to music in Italy," states Luca Vespignani, General Secretary of FPM and CEO of DcP.
