Hellbender Vinyl: Pittsburgh's New Artist-Run Record Pressing Plant Opens Its Doors
A new artist-run vinyl pressing plant, Hellbender Vinyl, has opened its doors in Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville neighborhood. Co-founded by Jeff Betten and Matt Dowling, this facility joins an exclusive group of only 40 vinyl pressing plants operating in the United States.

Hellbender Vinyl offers comprehensive vinyl pressing services for 7", 10", and 12" records, catering to artists at all career stages. As a member of the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM), the company has quickly established itself as a trusted manufacturer in the industry.
The facility's client roster includes notable artists such as Guster, The Ataris, Sparta, Wheatus, and Zao, alongside local Pittsburgh talents like Ghost Hounds, MCG Jazz, and Jim Donovan & Sun King Warriors. Their B2B partnerships extend to major brands including Urban Outfitters, Mountain Dew, and Saatchi & Saatchi.
Beyond manufacturing, Hellbender Vinyl actively engages with the local music community by hosting events, including live shows, album listening parties, art exhibits, podcasts, and film screenings. Their next major event is a Record Store Day party scheduled for April 12 at 5:30 pm EST.
This initiative aligns with Jack White's 2022 call for addressing vinyl supply chain issues through new pressing plants, following his own establishment of Third Man Records pressing plant in 2017. Hellbender's emergence represents a significant addition to the vinyl manufacturing landscape, particularly for independent artists seeking high-quality physical releases of their music.
