Ghislaine Maxwell Prosecutor Maurene Comey Joins Federal Case Against Diddy
Former Ghislaine Maxwell prosecutor Maurene Comey has joined the Department of Justice's sex trafficking case against Sean "Diddy" Combs. Comey, daughter of former FBI director James Comey, was one of three lead prosecutors who secured Maxwell's conviction in 2021.
Diddy's face in serious expression
Combs has been denied bail for the third time, with the court citing his alleged history of violence, including firearms use, kidnapping, and arson to intimidate victims and witnesses. The court determined that "no conditions of release can assure the safety of the community." Evidence suggests Combs attempted to obscure communications with prohibited contacts.
His defense team, led by Marc Agnifilo, denies all charges and has challenged the prosecution's case. They recently moved for a court order to prevent a potential jury from considering allegedly leaked evidence, including 2016 hotel surveillance footage showing Combs assaulting former girlfriend Cassie Ventura.
Combs alleges the Department of Homeland Security leaked the video to CNN to influence the grand jury indictment. The court has ordered prosecutors to submit an affidavit confirming they weren't the source of the leaks, as the government is prohibited from disclosing grand jury proceedings.
Agnifilo, who previously worked with Harvey Weinstein's former lawyer Ben Brafman, has extensive experience representing high-profile clients including Martin Shkreli, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Roger Ng, and NXIVM leader Keith Raniere.
