The company serves two main functions:
- Acts as a licensing marketplace between AI companies and music rights holders
- Provides technology to analyze AI-generated music outputs for accurate revenue distribution
Key partnerships include:
- Rights holders: Symphonic Distribution and Kanjian
- AI companies: Beatoven
The platform offers unique features allowing rights holders to:
- Monitor usage of their works
- Implement takedown requests
- Control sunset dates for usage
- Track revenue distribution based on input attribution
"Generative AI will need attribution, and we're the first to master it and provide a secure platform that implements it along with industry-accepted revenue sharing," states Matt Adell, Musical AI COO and former Beatport head.
The company plans to launch a separate seed funding round in the first half of the year, building on its current success and technological capabilities. Musical AI's platform specifically determines what percentage of an AI-generated output came from which data source, ensuring transparent and accurate revenue sharing among rights holders.
CEO Sean Power emphasizes the platform's unique position: "If we want AI training to be sustainable and ethical, we need attribution. Musical AI is the only company offering it in the audio space."
