Drake to File Amended Universal Music Lawsuit as Settlement Talks Stall
Drake is preparing to submit an amended lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG) in their ongoing legal battle. The rapper's legal team has formally committed to filing the retooled action within the next 20 days, ahead of the April 16th deadline set by the presiding judge.

The defamation dispute centers around Kendrick Lamar's song "Not Like Us," which Drake claims has led fans to believe false allegations about him. Universal Music is currently pushing to dismiss the case, calling it "meritless."
A key point of contention is the ongoing discovery process, where Drake seeks extensive documentation related to "Not Like Us," including its promotion and contract details. UMG is attempting to stay discovery pending their dismissal motion.
Both parties have stated that "settlement discussions would not be productive at this time." Drake's team maintains that meaningful negotiations can only proceed after UMG provides the requested documentation, while UMG seeks to halt discovery during the dismissal proceedings.
A pre-trial conference is scheduled for April 2nd. The case may see further developments as Kendrick Lamar and SZA begin their Grand National Tour later that month, where "Not Like Us" is expected to be performed.
