Tykeiya Dore and Marc A. Stephens filed the lawsuit, claiming Brown's "No Guidance" infringes on Dore's copyrighted track "I Got It." The plaintiffs previously attempted to resolve the issue through copyright infringement notices to YouTube and Sony Music Entertainment.
Brown's legal team has denied these claims, stating:
- The claim lacks merit
- The disputed elements are unprotectable ideas
- There is no substantial similarity between the songs
- There's no proof Brown had access to Dore's song
YouTube initially suspended Stephens' account and refused to remove Brown's music video, stating they found no copyrighted work that warranted removal. The lawsuit also names YouTube, Alphabet Inc., and Google for alleged defamation after calling Stephens' claims "fraudulent."
The $5 million lawsuit includes evidence of copyright registrations, comparison videos, and email correspondence between the parties involved.
