Deezer reports approximately 10,000 AI-generated tracks are being uploaded to their platform daily, representing about 10% of their total daily content delivery. The streaming service has responded by developing and implementing an AI music detector to identify these machine-made compositions.

The AI detector specifically targets tracks created through popular AI music generators like Suno and Udio, with capabilities to expand detection to other AI models when sufficient training data is available. Deezer is also working on a more advanced system that can identify AI-generated content without requiring specific training datasets.

Key findings from Deezer's analysis:

  • Most AI-generated tracks uploaded never receive any streams
  • The influx of AI content is diluting the music catalog
  • There are concerns about potential fraudulent activity
  • AI uploads account for roughly 10,000 of the 100,000 daily track uploads

In response to these challenges, Deezer's head Alexis Lanternier announced plans to:

  • Develop a comprehensive tagging system for AI-generated content
  • Exclude AI tracks from algorithmic and editorial recommendations
  • Protect artists' and songwriters' rights and revenues

While Deezer maintains "access to over 120 million tracks" compared to Spotify's "over 100 million tracks," the platform is taking proactive steps to manage the integration of AI-generated content while preserving the value of human-created music.

The move comes as streaming platforms grapple with AI's impact on music creation and distribution, with some services like Spotify previously reporting involvement in AI-related royalty scams, though claiming less than 1% of royalties were affected in these cases.
