A Brazilian judge has ordered Adele's song "Million Years Ago" to be removed from all streaming platforms globally following plagiarism allegations. The ruling comes with an $8,000 fine per violation for non-compliance by Sony and Universal's Brazilian divisions.

Brazilian composer Toninho Geraes claims the 2015 track from Adele's album "25" plagiarized his 1995 samba song "Mulheres (Women)," recorded by Martinho da Vila. Geraes seeks $160,000 in moral damages, lost royalties, and songwriting credit.

The preliminary injunction, issued by Judge Victor Torres in Rio de Janeiro's sixth commercial court, demands immediate global cessation of the song's use, reproduction, distribution, or commercialization across all platforms and formats.

Fredimio Trotta, Geraes' lawyer, calls the ruling "a landmark for Brazilian music," suggesting it will deter international producers from potentially misusing Brazilian compositions in the future.

While Sony Brazil hasn't commented, the song remains available on U.S. Spotify with over 225 million streams since its 2015 release. This marks the first legal challenge to "Million Years Ago," though Turkish fans previously noted similarities to Ahmet Kaya's 1985 song "Acilara Tutunmak (Clinging to Pain)" without legal action.
