U.S. Customs Seizes Record $18M Worth of Counterfeit Gibson Guitars
U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) officers have seized counterfeit Gibson guitars worth over $18 million, marking the largest counterfeit musical instrument seizure in CBP history.
The operation involved collaboration between CBP officers, HSI special agents, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, who intercepted suspicious cargo containers from Asia. Gibson confirmed the guitars were counterfeit, emphasizing that authentic Gibson guitars are exclusively manufactured in the United States.

CBP Director Cheryl M. Davies warns consumers about the deceptive nature of these counterfeits, noting they can appear genuine to unsuspecting buyers, especially during holiday shopping seasons. She advises consumers to be cautious of deals that seem too good to be true.
Gibson CEO Cesar Gueikian expressed gratitude for the agencies' efforts and emphasized the importance of purchasing directly from authorized dealers. He stressed their commitment to protecting consumers and ensuring authentic musical experiences.
As Gibson celebrates its 130th anniversary, the company continues to maintain its tradition of handcrafting all instruments in the United States, specifically in Nashville, Tennessee, and Bozeman, Montana, upholding the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship.
