Twitter/X attorneys have requested a three-week extension for their response deadline in the ongoing copyright infringement lawsuit filed by the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA). The new proposed deadline is Tuesday, April 9th.

The request follows a March 5th court ruling that partially denied Twitter's motion to dismiss the case. While some NMPA claims were dismissed, key components of the contributory infringement allegations remain, including:

  • Alleged preferential treatment for verified users posting copyrighted content
  • Unreasonable delays in responding to takedown notices
  • Inadequate handling of repeat infringers

Twitter/X cites the changed scope of the case following the partial dismissal as the reason for needing additional time to assess their response. The NMPA's legal team has consented to this extension request.

This case adds to the NMPA's history of copyright litigation against digital platforms, including:

  • A 2021 settlement with Roblox
  • A 2022 lawsuit against Vinkle's parent company (still ongoing)

The case's initial case management conference has been rescheduled from March 1st to June 7th, though no trial date has been set yet.

In related news, Bad Bunny recently filed a complaint against a Spanish fan for posting unauthorized concert footage from his Most Wanted Tour on YouTube, claiming it diverted traffic from his official channel. While the specific videos have been removed, similar unauthorized uploads continue to appear on various platforms.
