A major data breach at Ticketmaster has exposed personal information of over 440,000 Taylor Swift ticket buyers, with hackers claiming access to millions more tickets across multiple major tours.

The hacking group ShinyHunters claims to have obtained 193 million barcodes, including over 500,000 for upcoming shows. Affected tours include:

  • Taylor Swift's Eras Tour
  • Usher's "Past Present Future Tour"
  • P!nk's "Summer Carnival"
  • Aerosmith's "Peace Out Farewell Tour"
  • Neil Young & Crazy Horse's "Love Earth Tour"
  • Alanis Morissette's "Triple Moon Tour"
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Unlimited Love Tour"
  • Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's 2024 tour
  • Various Cirque du Soleil shows

The hackers have demanded $2 million ransom to prevent leaking mail and e-ticket barcodes, later increasing their demand to $8 million. They've already released sample tickets for Taylor Swift's upcoming Indianapolis shows to prove their claims.

Ticketmaster has begun notifying affected users and offering identity theft monitoring services. The company claims its SafeTix technology, which refreshes barcodes every few seconds, will prevent leaked tickets from being used.

Senator Richard Blumenthal has expressed concerns about Ticketmaster's delayed notification of the May hack, urging affected consumers to enroll in the offered credit monitoring service and monitor their bank accounts.

This breach potentially affects millions of Americans, as Ticketmaster sold over 620 million tickets in 2023 alone. The incident comes amid an antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation and Ticketmaster by the U.S. Justice Department and 28 state Attorneys General.
