AM radio remains a dominant presence in new vehicles, according to Quu's 2024 In-Vehicle Visuals Report. The study, which analyzed the top 100 best-selling American vehicles, reveals that AM radio is available in 98% of new car dashboards, while FM radio maintains 100% coverage.

The dashboard landscape shows strong competition among audio options:
- FM Radio: 100% presence
- AM Radio: 98% presence
- Android Auto/Apple CarPlay: 98% presence
- SiriusXM: 92% presence
- HD Radio: Present in two-thirds of new vehicles
Notable findings include GM's limited HD radio adoption, with only Cadillac models featuring standardized HD radio installation, representing approximately 20% of their vehicles.
The significance of AM radio extends beyond entertainment. During emergencies, AM radio serves as a crucial communication channel. FEMA has invested heavily in the Emergency Alert System through AM radio infrastructure, making it essential for public safety.
Multiple state Attorneys General, including those from South Dakota, South Carolina, Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Texas, Utah, and West Virginia, are advocating for the AM Radio For Every Vehicle Act, emphasizing its importance during natural disasters and emergencies.
While traditional radio maintains its strong presence, the increasing variety of audio options means stations must clearly demonstrate their value to listeners who now have multiple choices at their fingertips.
