Alexis Ohanian and Kevin Rose have teamed up to repurchase Digg, aiming to revitalize the once-popular social media platform with a modern approach focused on community and discovery.

The duo plans to compete with Reddit by addressing current social media challenges, including combative discourse, misinformation, and spam. Their vision involves leveraging AI technology while prioritizing genuine human connections and community building.

The venture is backed by True Ventures and Seven Seven Six, with Justin Mezzell appointed as CEO. This revival comes at a crucial time, following Reddit's recent controversies regarding third-party app support and AI content scraping agreements with Google.

Digg's original voting system, which inspired Reddit's upvote/downvote mechanism, will likely see modern improvements under this new leadership.
