"Ladies & Gentlemen... 50 Years of SNL Music," a three-hour special, will feature previously untold stories behind the show's most iconic musical moments, including performances, sketches, and cameos that have defined popular culture over five decades.
The documentary includes over 50 interviews with legendary artists including Elvis Costello, Bad Bunny, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, Mick Jagger, Dua Lipa, Paul Simon, and Justin Timberlake. SNL creator Lorne Michaels, along with notable cast and crew members such as Eddie Murphy, Maya Rudolph, and Kenan Thompson, also share their insights.
Questlove expressed his excitement about the project, stating, "Everyone knows the most famous SNL appearances, whether it's Elvis Costello, Prince, or the Beastie Boys, but they're the tip of the iceberg. The process of going back through the incredible archival footage was like being in a time machine."
The documentary is produced by Two One Five Entertainment, RadicalMedia, and Broadway Video, with executive production from industry veterans including Lorne Michaels, Questlove, and several others.
As part of SNL's 50th-anniversary celebration, viewers can also look forward to a four-part docuseries titled "SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night" premiering January 16, followed by a live prime-time special on February 16.
