The series emerged after multiple lawsuits were filed against Combs, including one from his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. Recent developments include Combs' arrest in New York on charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, fraud, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty but remains in custody after being denied bail.
50 Cent and Stapleton stated to Variety that the documentary aims to present a comprehensive narrative spanning decades, promising to give voice to victims while maintaining a balanced perspective on hip-hop culture. Proceeds from the documentary will support sexual assault victims.
The project gained momentum following several allegations against Combs, including claims from former Bad Boy Records rapper Mark Curry about spiked champagne at parties. While Combs has denied most allegations, he admitted to assaulting Cassie Ventura after video evidence emerged, settling her lawsuit shortly after it was filed.
Additional lawsuits have been filed by numerous individuals, including:
- Rodney "Lil Rod" Jones
- Grace O'Marcaigh
- Crystal McKinney
- Dawn Richard
- Joi Dickerson-Neal
- Liza Gardner
- April Lampros
- Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith
- Multiple Jane Does
- Thalia Graves
The documentary promises to explore these allegations while maintaining a balanced perspective on the broader impact on hip-hop culture.
