Bandcamp CEO Ethan Diamond announced that 100% of the company's proceeds from sales on Friday will be donated to the ACLU. In his message to users, Diamond emphasized that the ban "violates the very spirit and foundation of America," noting his own family's immigrant history.
Notable participants in the "#NoBanNoWall" protest include:
- Kill Rock Stars
- Tompkins Square
- Alanna McArdle
- Merge Records
Some artists have made extended commitments:
- Son Lux will donate proceeds from "At War with Walls and Mazes" to the ACLU for four years
- Xiu Xiu pledged all Bandcamp revenues to the ACLU for the same period
- Other labels and artists are contributing to organizations like the Nigerian Muslim Association of New York
The initiative represents one of the music industry's most coordinated responses to the executive order, which Trump administration officials say is necessary to prevent "radical Islamic terrorists" from entering the country.
