Rock acknowledged his background in hip-hop culture, noting his experience with break dancing, DJing, graffiti, and rapping. He praised Lamar's authenticity, comparing it to his own career approach of being unapologetically himself.

Discussing the performance's origins, Rock credited Jay-Z's involvement and suggested that Colin Kaepernick's NFL protests indirectly led to this opportunity. He described the show as "the most exclusive thing ever," noting its strong focus on Black culture and audience.

The comments come shortly after Rock's own controversial performance at Jon Bon Jovi's Nashville bar on February 8. During a cover of "Proud Mary," Rock abruptly left the stage after becoming frustrated with the audience's lack of participation, leaving his band to finish the song without him.
