The layoffs are part of iHeartMedia's nationwide cost-cutting initiative aimed at reducing their $5.21 billion debt. CEO Bob Pittman stated the company expects to save approximately $150 million by "eliminating redundancies."
According to Pittman, on-air talent will largely be preserved, with the company leveraging technology to broadcast talent across different markets. Nearly 500 employees across major markets including Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and San Francisco have been affected by these cuts.
Tim Conway Jr., a KFI show host, acknowledged the layoffs during his Monday broadcast, simply stating, "A lot of people have left the building at iHeartMedia."
