His daughters, Jessica and Maya, have filed for temporary conservatorship in Los Angeles Superior Court. The petition specifically requests that Pinfield's girlfriend, Kara Brown, not be notified of the conservatorship attempt.
Pinfield's career began as a DJ broadcasting from his East Brunswick family home. He gained prominence at the Melody Bar in the 1980s, where he hosted influential musicians like Mick Jones of The Clash and poet Gregory Corso. As program director at WHTG-FM, he helped launch alternative rock bands like The Cure and R.E.M. into mainstream success.
His most recognizable role came as an MTV VJ, where he hosted "120 Minutes" from 1995 to 1999. Prior to his stroke, Pinfield had returned to radio, working at Los Angeles' KCSN rock station.
Concerns arose when Pinfield, typically active on social media, stopped posting three weeks ago. His last post read: "Starting another week with gratitude for a life surrounded by great people, life-changing music, and unforgettable experiences that I never take for granted. Here's to another week — another day — open heart and open mind. Let's rock!"
