Joining Dualtone as an intern in 2002, Roper quickly rose to become President and Partner, where he played a pivotal role in signing and releasing over 200 albums. Under his leadership, the label earned multiple Grammy nominations, four Grammy wins, and several Americana Music Association awards.

Roper was instrumental in championing successful artists including The Lumineers, Gregory Alan Isakov, Mt. Joy, Shakey Graves, Shovels & Rope, flipturn, Brett Dennen, Langhorne Slim, Wilder Woods, Guy Clark, Chuck Berry, Mouse Rat, and June Carter Cash.

Jeremiah Fraites of The Lumineers shared a touching memory: "When we started touring in our 15-passenger van, we didn't have money for hotels and were splitting Subway sandwiches. I'll never forget when Paul showed up to the parking lot in Nashville with beer and pizza. It was a small gesture on his side, but a massive one for us."

As a visionary leader in what he termed "Amerikinda" music, Roper helped establish Dualtone Music as a trusted partner for artists and a leader in independent music. The label's official statement noted, "Paul led Dualtone with dedication, authenticity, humor, and kindness. His legacy of integrity and deep love for music will continue to inspire us all."

Roper is survived by his wife and four children. His family requests that donations be made to Corner to Corner in his memory instead of flowers.
