Dolly Parton has been awarded the 2024 Peace Through Music Award by the U.S. State Department and Recording Academy. This prestigious honor recognizes music professionals who promote global peace and cross-cultural understanding through their work.
The award ceremony took place at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, where Parton accepted the honor during an event that also launched the American Music Mentorship Program.
Parton was selected for her significant contributions to:
- Global music impact spanning generations
- Children's education through Imagination Library
- COVID-19 vaccine research funding
- Promoting understanding, peace, and unity through music
"Dolly Parton represents the best of America—her excellence in music, her servant's heart in giving back to those in need, and her unique ability to always bring people together," said Lee Satterfield, Acting Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs.
The award selection process involves:
- Nominations from U.S. embassies worldwide
- Review by a joint committee of Recording Academy members, State Department leadership, and industry professionals
- Final approval by the Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs
