The upcoming smart home hub is described as resembling a "square iPad" that can be either wall-mounted or attached to a speaker base. China-based manufacturer Tianma has been selected to provide competitively-priced LCD panels for the device, suggesting Apple aims to keep the final product reasonably priced.
Key features include:
- Custom "homeOS" operating system
- Widget-oriented home screen
- Advanced Siri integration
- HomeKit compatibility
- Built-in camera for FaceTime calls
- Home security capabilities with camera footage display
The device will compete directly with Google's Nest Hub and Amazon's Echo Show in the smart home market. While branding remains uncertain, Apple is expected to position this as a central hub for smart home control.
Alongside this new HomePod, Apple's 2025 roadmap includes:
- New HomePod mini release
- Updated iPhone models
- New AirPods
- M4 Macs
- Additional smart home products
