The partnership provides licensed content from major labels including Universal, Sony, Warner Music, and Merlin, ensuring all streamed music aligns with approved licenses. 7digital's extensive metadata catalog powers Hangout's search functionality, allowing users to easily find and share music.

Joseph Perla, CEO and founder of Hangout, emphasized the importance of 7digital's robust music data in creating a seamless listening experience. James Priestley, Chief Commercial Officer at 7digital, noted that their global music catalog and platform solutions, combined with Songtradr's industry expertise, enable innovative social music experiences.

Launched globally last month, Hangout aims to be a social media alternative focused on communal music appreciation. The platform features virtual listening spaces where users can:

  • Unite over shared musical interests
  • Discover new artists with peers globally
  • Interact via virtual dancefloor and chat functions
  • Experience music together in a community setting

This collaboration marks a renewed relationship between 7digital and Hangout's predecessor Turntable.fm, which Perla co-founded in 2011.
